Description

ACCEL Schools is seeking a Behavioral Specialist at our Wright Academy in Canton, OH. The Behavior Intervention Specialist is a professional support position.  The BIS will collaborate with educators to diagnose and develop behavioral interventions for at risk students as well as provide instruction for said students when removed from the classroom due to behavior-based issues. The daily instructional activities are performed in a pull-out model manner. The BIS is ultimately responsible for reintegrating the student into an appropriate classroom environment. A high level of records management, record-keeping, and reporting exists.

 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Under the guidance of the school leader(s), develop, implement and post Time Out Room procedures.
  • Demonstrates a strong foundation in Applied Behavior Analysis
  • Serves as an Absence Intervention Team member and develop Absence Intervention Plans
  • Designs and interprets Functional Analysis of Behavior
  • Communicate with teachers, parents and other support systems in the community to find positive solutions for behavior modification
  • Serve as member of school's leadership team
  • Support lessons taught or assigned by the teacher or school leader(s)
  • Other duties as assigned, including, but not limited to, morning duty, dismissal duty, and lunch duty

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in education, social work, health, or other related field preferred.
  • Intervention Specialist license preferred
  • A minimum of three years' experience working with teenagers as a teacher, social worker, tutor or mentor, preferably in a multi-cultural setting.
  • Successful completion of federal and state criminal background checks
  • Track record of building trust and positive relationships with students, parents, and community-based organizations
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Possesses interpersonal skills and the ability to handle emotionally charged situations
  • Ability to communicate (written and verbal) effectively with parents and professionals
  • Ability to train others to apply effective behavior management techniques
  • Possesses an understanding of educational curriculum and instructional methods
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products
