ACCEL Schools is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Regional Vice President in Columbus, OH to lead the effective operation of a porfolio of Charter School campuses.

Position Summary:

 

The Regional Vice President holds executive and administrative authority and responsibility for the effective operation of assigned schools, excluding responsibilities carried out directly by the board. The Regional Vice President oversees implementation of the school’s model and curriculum; provides leadership that ensures excellence in teaching and student learning while promoting community support and maintaining efficiency in operation. The Regional Vice President oversees compliance with all aspects of: state and federal law; board policies and procedures; and compliance requirements of the authorizer.

 

Primary Tasks:

  • Supervise Heads of School (HoS’s)/Principals at each designated school.
  • Act as liaison between HoS, ACCEL Schools, the school’s board of directors, and the school’s sponsor.
  • Provide support as it pertains to daily operations and curriculum.
  • In existing schools: participate in public hearings and negotiations with school districts and Departments of Education. Oversee preparation of budgets and monitor existing budgets.
  • In start-up schools: responsible for start-up and marketing of new schools. Participate in marketing presentations. Preparation and monitoring of budgets. Participate in public hearings and negotiations with school districts and Departments of Education for new charters in designated regions.
  • Work with charter school boards and represent ACCEL Schools at Board Meetings. Furnish Boards with status reports. Communicate Board data to ACCEL Schools.
  • Use multiple sources of data collection to analyze barriers to student achievement. Access, identify and apply instructional improvement.
  • Actively engage the community to create shared responsibility for student and school success.

Characteristic Duties:

  • Articulate a clear vision of the goals, objectives and commitment of the charter school to all stakeholders.
  • Communicate effectively with HoS’s, parents, students, faculty, the board, state authorizer, ACCEL Schools and community. 
  • Keep the Executive Vice President aware of all pertinent information regarding each supervised school.
  • Communicate board actions to ACCEL Schools.
  • Share responsibility for the development and implementation of each school’s strategic plan to ensure that educational goals, assessment standards and benchmarks are met according to the charter agreement and ACCEL Schools’ requirements.
  • Generate public support for the school’s program and education in general.
  • Ensure meaningful parental involvement in the school and their child’s learning.
  • Communicate policy recommendations for the Board’s consideration and action.
  • Work with the HoS and school accountant(s) to develop a viable budget with effective controls. Address Board and ACCEL Schools' questions about budgets and forecasts in a timely and thorough manner.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of marketing plans to attract students to the charter school.
  • Ensure the accuracy and completion of the School Improvement Plan, Annual Report, and annual school calendar and submit them to the board in a timely manner. Ensure that all required reports with local, state and federal education agencies, Board of Trustees and authorizer are filed prior to required deadlines.
  • Ensure school curriculum meets state and local requirements every year, is properly implemented, and is regularly assessed for effectiveness.
  • Ensure and oversee the accurate maintenance of administrative records meeting all state and regulatory requirements.
  • Direct and serve as a model to ensure the safety, security and attractiveness of the school building and grounds.
  • Oversee the development of a Code of Student Conduct that defines the responsibilities of administrators, teachers, parents, and students in supporting a safe, secure learning environment.
  • Assist HoS with various Human Resources functions including but not limited to general procedures, compensation, and discipline.
  • Interview, hire and train HoS’s and other staff without discrimination on the basis of age, color, nation origin, gender or sexual orientation.
  • Provide effective staff and professional development programs that are attached to student learning and match school goals to model continuous professional growth and improved student and teacher performance.
  • Provide effective professional development programs for the HoS and support staff that ensure compliance with all relevant Local, State and Federal laws, policies and procedures.
  • Use multiple sources of data collection including standardized tests, portfolios, observations, conferences and grades to access student and school performance. Convey findings to the board, the school’s sponsor, and the management company.
  • Attend local, state, and national events as needed and participate in the Association of Public School Charter Schools.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

  • Five or more years’ successful experience as a K-8 HoS (principal), preferably in a charter school
  • Three or more years’ P&L management experience, preferably in a school setting
  • Two or more years’ success as a Regional Manager of an education-related company or as a Superintendent or Associate Superintendent
  • Track record of building positive working relationships with multiple stakeholders including Board members, authorizers, staff members, students, and parents,
  • Working knowledge of current federal and relevant state(s) school law, including the implications on the educational program and on liability.
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, business management or other relevant field required, Master’s degree preferred
  • Valid superintendent’s license preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills that reflect professionalism and tact at all times
  • Strong time management skills as reflected in effective work and adherence to deadlines on simultaneous projects
  • Ability to pass state and federal background checks
