ACCEL Schools is seeking experienced Education leaders to fill the position of Assistant Dean of Student Life & Management in multiple locations in our Cleveland/Akron networks. The Asst. POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting directly to Principal, the Associate Dean of Student Life and Management requires an individual who is detail-oriented and capable of executing various tasks. The Associate Dean of Student Life and Management, hereafter referred to as ADSLM, will be responsible for assisting in the areas of office organization, scheduling changes, scholar and staff redirection, and overall functionality of daily school operations. The ADSLM is responsible for adhering to all administrative and network expectations, and will work collectively with their respective admin team to progressively push scholars and staff to meet all network and building wide expectations.

 

Initial Inspection Upon arrival, ADSLM will check school grounds for anything out of place. ADSLM is to assure chairs, tables, and buckets are prepared and ready for morning arrival of students. Also, ADSLM will perform a brief inspection of the building to ensure all bulletin boards and signs are visually up to quality.

 

Re-cap Prior Day ObligationsAny unfinished tasks from the previous day are to be addressed by ADSLM and prioritized accordingly. The DSLM will resolve the issue(s) using their professional judgment, by executing, delegating, or setting forth a plan of action.

 

Parental Notice ADSLM along with Dean of Student life and management, hereafter referred to as DSLM, will perform the task of calling parents / guardians pertaining to detention/suspension or setting up a conference. As an administrator of the building, ADSLM has full authority to convey relevant and objective information pertaining to situations that may arise throughout the day. At the behest of the school principal, DSLM, or executive member, certain situations may need to be handled directly by one or more of the aforementioned parties; identify these instances with your respective administration . 

 

Discipline  As a building administrator, the ADSLM is responsible for upholding the scholar and staff code of conduct at all times. The ADSLM is to administer disciplinary action for scholars and staff when warranted in accordance with the objective items contained in the handbook and in agreement with the DSLM and school administrators.  Any misconduct or documented disciplinary action should always be immediately conveyed to either the DSLM or school principal. Additionally, the ADSLM has the authority to levy an investigation in an attempt to resolve a situation or issue; always seek additional administrative assistance in these instances.

 

Academic Support as a building administrator, the ADSLM will work with school leaders and instructional staff to provide support of instruction and the instructional program in classrooms and in the building at large.

 

Filing and Dean Office The ADSLM will work directly with the DSLM to develop a fluent, organized, and systematic approach to maintaining all necessary documents. The ADSLM will maintain visual integrity of the dean’s office by ensuring papers are filed on a periodical basis that prevents excessive clutter or disorganization. The office should be operated at all times in a manner that does not conflict or appear contradictory to the high level of expectations prevalent throughout the network.

 

Disciplinary Procedures The protocol regarding scholar write-ups are listed hereunder and should be addressed as follows:

 

  • Referrals: ADSLM and DSLM will develop a system for compiling and making discipline determinations regarding referrals. The ADSLM should familiarize themselves with scholars in all classes in instances where re-direction may be beneficial or necessary. ADSLM will ensure scholars who are removed from class with a referral receive the appropriate means of redirection before returning to class, if permissible. The approach to redirecting a scholar with a referral should be systematic and routine.  

 

  • Detentions:  The ADSLM and DSLM will develop a system for notifying parents, confirming with the scholar prior to the conclusion of school day, monitoring detention, and documenting all detention files in the respective scholar’s behavior folder. DSLM and ADSLM will share detention responsibilities

 

  • Suspensions/Expulsions: ADSLM should familiarize themselves with code of conduct for infractions warranting suspension. As a building administrator, the ADSLM has the authority to suspend, but should always consult with principal or DSLM before making determination. Under no circumstance is the ADSLM to levy a formal expulsion. Infractions warranting expulsion should be handled by the DSLM and school principal, and ultimately the Board.

Incentive Program(s) - ADSLM will assist in the coordination of incentive programs. The objective of incentive programs is to increase positive behavior during school hours and on school sponsored events.

 

Community Outreach Coordinator - ADSLM will coordinate outreach events that will ensure the mission is shared throughout the community.

 

Arrival/ Meal/ Dismissal Duties- ADSLM will perform arrival, meal and dismissal duties as assigned by the principal.

 

The primary duty of this position is to be an assistant to the DSLM - The overall objective is to allow the DSLM to have a more engaging role in maintaining the culture. Any contact which is to be extended to the parent or guardian of a student is to be done with the utmost professional care, and only consist of an informative dialogue conveying relevant and objective facts of how an incident transpired and was handled.

 

Additionally, the ADSLM role is not limited to the aforementioned items above. The ADSLM agrees to assist in the execution of tasks that are deemed to be beneficial or necessary to daily operations, as determined by the administrative or management team.

 

Line of Authority- The ADSLM reports to the Head of School, Principal(s). The Principal/Head of School reports directly to the Executive Director of School Accountability. The Head of School, Principal(s), and the Executive Director of School Accountability are responsible for hiring, non-renewal of contracts, and firing of the Deans and Associate Deans of Student Life and Management

 

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or related discipline required; an advanced degree in education/educational leadership strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of two years teaching or leadership experience in an urban public or charter school setting
  • Valid state certification is helpful but not required.
  • Successful completion of federal and state criminal background checks
  • Ability to work well under pressure as well as effectively prioritize and execute tasks to meet deadlines consistently
  • Understanding of and ability to manage confidential information
  • Exemplary written and verbal communication skills
